03/07/99 - A flock of 25 Red Legged Partridge were observed
ground feeding at the farm by Fleethead Creek.
08/08/99 - Four Little Egret were observed late afternoon off
Two Tree Island.
08/10/99 - two Nuthatch's were observed at the entrance to
Belfairs Park.
09/10/99 - Five Stonechats were counted at 1745 on Two Tree Island near hide.
10/10/99 - Ring Billed Gull; This Gull has been around the Shoebury Common area now for at least four weeks. Good sightings can be had whenever the tide is in with the gull usually roosting on the grass in front of the 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' Café.
10/10/99 - Fifteen Stonechats were counted on the Two
Tree Island Nature Reserve
11/10/99 - (from feedback) Observed from Southend pier at around 11:30 - an adult Mediterranean gull.
11/10/99 - At flock of up to 100 Corn Buntings were counted at the Half Way House Farm near Fleethead Creek
16/10/99 - The Brent are back! Early morning at Wakering Stairs
and wave upon wave of Brent Geese were observed flying in from the sea. A
trip to Two Tree Island Point by the pill-box
at 1700 this evening produced the wonderful site of 3000 Brent Geese and
just as many Wigeon. The Warden at Two Tree Island is of the opinion that
these numbers will build up even further during the coming week. If you would you would like to see this

17/10/99 - Upwards of 100 Shelduck were observed on a short stretch of the river Roach next to Stambridge Mills. A further count of the Brent Geese near Two Tree Island at 1530 has now made the numbers up to 5000
20/10/99 - An unconfirmed report has been received that four Sabine's
Gulls were observed at Shoebury Common last weekend by a bird watcher from
Abberton. If confirmed, it will make this part of the Southend seafront one of
the best places to see rare gulls this winter! If anyone has any more details
please use the sightings form below.
20/10/99 - If anyone has seen any Short Eared Owls on Two Tree
Island in the last four months would they please provide details using the
feedback form below.
20/10/99 - A Pomarine Skua was observed from Canvey point.
21/10/99 - A Leach's Petrel was observed off of Canvey Island .
30/10/99 - A single Tawny Pipit was seen at Gunners Park Shoebury 06.35
Sea watching at Canvey for this month produced the following species: Leach's
Petrel, Velvet Scoters, 100+ Gannet, Pomarine Skuas, Great Skuas,
Little Gulls and a Grey Phalarope on the
30th.
